Seth Meyers is saying goodbye to his longtime sidekick—his dog Frisbee.

On Tuesday, August 19, the 51-year-old Saturday Night Live alum announced on Instagram that the family’s Italian greyhound had died at 14.

“RIP to Frisbee, our OG IG who I was happy to go grey with,” Meyers wrote alongside a carousel of Frisbee snaps from over the years. “She was at her best curled in your lap and patient when we dressed her up like a pilgrim. Thanks for 14 amazing years, girl.”

Meyers shares three kids—Ashe, 9, Axel, 7, and Adelaide, 3—with wife Alexi Ashe, whom he married in 2013. Frisbee was already part of the picture by then, even making her way into Meyers’ proposal to Alexi.

Celebrity friends quickly filled the comments. Amy Poehler wrote, “Frisbee forever 🥏.” Rachel Dratch added, “Noooo! Frisbeeee! sorry for your loss.❤️.” Kenan Thompson chimed in with, “Oh nooooo!!! So sorry buddy!!! ❤️❤️.” Sarah Paulson, Ike Barinholtz, and Adam Pally also weighed in.

Fans left their condolences too, but plenty zeroed in on Frisbee’s legendary feud with Andy Samberg.

“May her ghost haunt Andy Samberg forever 🙏🏻♥️,” one commenter quipped.

“Out loud went ‘Nooo’ and then ‘oh Andy must be so happy,’” another said.

“So sorry for your loss! ❤️ May Andy never know peace again,” chimed in a third.

The jokes about Samberg’s “hatred” for Frisbee go back years. In a Late Night Q&A, Meyers revealed Samberg hadn’t liked the pup “since she was little,” even recalling how he once scratched her face out of the family Christmas card “like a serial killer” and mailed it back.

During another Late Night segment via video chat in 2020, Meyers brought up one of his Instagram posts of Frisbee to Samberg. The Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor admitted that when he first saw the photo, “there was a moment where I was, like, ‘Oh, yes!’ Because in the picture, it almost looks like Frisbee is dead, you know?” He added that the thought of Frisbee dying “was jubilation.”

Meyers then held Frisbee up to the camera, but she turned away. “Look how much she hates you. She hates you so much,” Meyers laughed. Samberg tried to play nice—“Frisbee, I just want to say, it’s all in good fun, you’re a good dog”—before flashing a sticky note that revealed his real opinion: “Frisbee sucks.”

The gag didn’t end there. In March 2023, Samberg doubled down while guest-hosting a parody segment called “A Grosser Look.” He used the airtime to roast Frisbee as “Seth’s nightmare-inducing hellspawn” and “the worst greyhound since the bus,” cementing the feud as an ongoing bit.

By July, the joke had spilled over to Poehler’s podcast Good Hang. Meyers joined her for an episode, and together they decided to prank Samberg by telling him that Frisbee had died.

Poehler delivered the line with mock seriousness, setting him up for what they thought might be a heartfelt reaction. Instead, Samberg didn’t miss a beat: “Don’t even play, ’cause I’ll be so happy,” he said, before piling on—“That dog sucks, dude. That dog is like a rat carcass.”

Just two weeks later, Meyers got real about Frisbee’s condition on his own podcast. “She’s just really old,” he admitted. “She’s not actively dying, but I would say that even a 7-year-old who’s not a vet is like, ‘Last days?’”

While Samberg hasn’t commented directly, he did reshare a Vulture headline on his Instagram Story that read: “R.I.P., Frisbee. Seth Meyers’s dog and Andy Samberg’s nemesis has died at 14.”
