Emma Heming Willis is celebrating a major step forward in frontotemporal dementia awareness after visiting the California State Capitol to witness the creation of a new awareness week for frontotemporal dementia, which her husband and legendary actor Bruce Willissuffers from.

Along with members of the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD) and other advocates, Heming Willis watched as the new resolution was passed by state legislators on Monday, Aug. 18, establishing Sept. 21—27 as Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD) Awareness Week—the state's second resolution relating to the matter.

The author took to Instagram late in the evening to mark the occasion, sharing photos that included her posing next to the framed resolution and a celebratory group shot from the front lawn.

"We are grateful to the California Legislature for recognizing FTD Awareness Week; September 21st-27th and to the elected officials who made this possible," she wrote in the caption, tagging all of the legislators who were involved in "[coming] together across party lines for this important bipartisan moment."

"This resolution is more than symbolic, it’s a lifeline of recognition for every family touched by FTD 💙," she concluded.

Fans were just as excited, with one exclaiming, "wow!!!!" in the comments and others gushing, "Fantastic 🔥," and, "Stellar."Heming Willis has served as the Die Hard star's caregiver since his diagnosis, which began with aphasia and was later adjusted to the neurodegenerative condition.

Her memoir covering her "unexpected journey" releases next month, on Sept. 9: The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope and Yourself on the Caregiving Path. Fans were thrilled by that "amazing" update, as they've been following closely along with her vulnerable posts ever since the family revealed his diagnosis to the world.

Now, she's a vocal advocate for people suffering from FTD and their families, speaking at conferences and sharing anecdotes on social media to increase awareness of the disease. Her upcoming book is “filled with support, insight, and the hope needed to navigate” the journey of caregiving for a loved one—something she didn't have at the time.

Recently, she opened up about the day he received his official diagnosis. "On the day Bruce got his diagnosis, we left the doctor’s office with a pamphlet and a hollow goodbye. No plan, no guidance, no hope, just shock,” she said. “The future we imagined simply vanished, and I was left trying to hold my family together, raise our two young daughters, and care for the man I love while navigating a disease I barely understood.”

Next on Heming Willis' docket, she hopes to encourage Governor Gavin Newsom to add a seat for an FTD representative to the California Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Advisory Committee.
